It is strange in a way how ones life is unknowingly mapped out! For years and still today children start dancing at 3,4 and some as young as age 2, “NOT ME”. I was big into Swimming and Athletics, it was only by chance I got involved in Irish Dancing at the old age of 12. My younger sister started a class local to where we lived, she asked me to come along with her for the company, to her horror I joined and now 30 years later I am still dancing. I have been teaching for more years than I care to remember! I love dancing from the bottom of my heart and though through the years there has been ups and downs Dancing is my life. At this stage I have lost count of the number of children that I have taught how to dance and I have had immense enjoyment doing so! We have travelled the World and had fantastic fun with lasting memories that are priceless and never to be forgotten. A number of my Senior girls have sat and passed their exams some deciding not to pursue their dancing any further, and other now teaching classes of their own. My school when I started teaching was the LINDA JACKSON SCHOOL but now with the help of Breda Holland, Pamela Stokes and Michelle Mahony we now are called the TARA DANCE ACADEMY. Having a good class is built on good and loyal students their parents and the teachers that are keen and interested in making a difference, I believe that everyone should know how to dance, it is not like a language and no matter where you go in the world if you can get up and do a dance you can communicate with others without speaking. |
